Why November Is a Great Time for Senior Portraits | Amy V. Boswell Photography
If you're a Charlotte area senior, or the parent of one, you've probably wondered when to schedule senior photos. Summer can be a bit hot and humid, spring is always nice however calendars fill up quickly with spring break, prom, graduation parties and other fun events. So if you come alive with cooler weather, colorful leaves and prefer a fall wardrobe then a November photo shoot might be for you.
The light is hard to beat
In November the sun stays lower in the sky, which gives you soft, golden light for much of the afternoon instead of just a short window at sunset. That glow is so flattering and it makes for beautiful portraits. It also means we have more flexibility on timing, so you can come after school without missing the best light.
Fall color does half the work
Even a simple outfit looks great against warm leaves, textured trees, and rich fall tones. Whether you're drawn to the Mint Museum, Camp North End, Marvin Efrid Park or somewhere that means something to you in the Charlotte area, November gives your photos depth and warmth.
Weekdays make for aN easier session
On a weekday we get:
Quieter locations, so we can move around freely and try different spots
A relaxed pace, with time to change outfits, reset, and laugh instead of rushing
Easier scheduling, since you won't have to give up a game, a job shift, or family time
More choice of times, with most weekdays in November still open
Getting ready for your session
A few simple things go a long way:
Pick outfits you feel like yourself in. Bring 2 to 3 options, including one that's a little dressed up and one that's casual.
Choose colors that work for you and for fall. Deep greens, rust, navy, cream, and denim photograph beautifully, and both solid colors, florals and patterns work.
Bring something personal if you’d like. A varsity jacket, instrument, cleats, or a favorite accessory adds personality.
Get a good night's sleep and drink plenty of water the day before.
Plan for the weather. November in Charlotte can swing from chilly to warm, so bring layers and I'll help you work them into the shoot.
What a session with me looks
We pick a date that works well for you as well as clothing you feel good in and will go well with the fall senior photo shoot.
We meet for an hour the day of your photo session and we get gorgeous photos for you and your parents to treasure. Your family can also have a session added to the beginning or the end of the session with no extra charge.
A week later we look over the photos together and decide what you’d like to have and ways to display them in your home. Plus, I have lots of lovely graduation announcements to choose from to celebrate your big accomplishment!
My goal is for you and your parents to love your portraits and for these special portraits represent you.
Ready to book?
I have most weekdays in November available right now. I tend to book up, especially around Thanksgiving. Please contact me with any questions and any dates you’re interested in having your beautiful fall senior portraits!
